(Article updated on July 23, 2018): Michael Stearns & Joseph S. DeBeasi are composing the original score for the upcoming survival drama Alpha. The film is directed by Albert Hughes (Menace 2 Society, From Hell) and stars Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhanness. The movie is set 20,000 years ago in Europe during the Upper Paleolithic period and centers on a young man’s friendship with a wolf. Daniele Sebastian Wiedenhaupt wrote the screenplay based on a story by Hughes who is also producing the Studio 8 production with Andrew Rona (Non-Stop, The Commuter). Stearns’ previous scoring credits include Samsara and One Eight Seven. DeBeasi has previously served as the music editor on The Book of Eli, which Albert Hughes co-directed with his brother Allen. As a composer, he has previously provided the underscore for Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper and scored several features and shorts, including the documentary Kidnapped for Christ. Alpha is set to be released on August 17, 2018 by Sony Pictures. Visit the official movie website for updates.
