Alexandre Desplat has begun work on the upcoming historical thriller Operation Finale. The film is directed by Chris Weitz (About a Boy) and stars Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley, Melanie Laurent, Lior Raz, Nick Kroll, Michael Aronov, Haley Lu Richardson, Joe Alwyn, Ohad Knoller, Greg Hill, Torben Liebrecht, Mike Hernandez, Greta Scacchi and Pêpê Rapazote. The movie tells the true story of the 1960 covert mission where legendary Mossad agent Peter Malkin infiltrates Argentina and captures Nazi officer Adolf Eichmann. Matthew Orton wrote the screenplay. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister, Midnight Special) and Fred Berger (La La Land) are producing the project with Isaac and Jason Spire (Mojave). Desplat has previously scored Weitz’s last three features The Golden Compass, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and A Better Life. Operation Finale is set to be released on September 21, 2018 by MGM.
Desplat’s other upcoming projects also include the thriller Kursk starring Matthias Schoenaerts & Colin Firth and Jacques Audiard’s western The Sisters Brothers starring Joaquin Phoenix & Jake Gyllenhaal.
Curiously, Alexandre’s daughter Antonia, who performed the vocals in Hostage has a role in the film.
