Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans are reteaming with Joel Edgerton on the upcoming drama Boy Erased. The film is written and directed by Edgerton who also stars in the movie alongside Lucas Hedges, Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman, Joe Alywn, Cherry Jones and Michael “Flea” Balzary. The movie is based on the book Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family by Garrard Conley and centers on the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents and is faced with an ultimatum: attend a gay conversion therapy program, or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Edgerton is also producing the project with Anonymous Content’s Kerry Kohansky-Roberts (Berlin Station, Admission) and Steve Golin (Spotlight, The Revenant). Bensi & Jurriaans have previously scored Edgerton’s last directorial effort, The Gift. Boy Erased is set to be released on September 28, 2018 by Focus Features.
