Brian Reitzell has been tapped to score the second season of the National Geographic original series Mars. The show is created by Ben Young Mason & Justin Wilkes and stars JiHAE, Sammi Rotibi, Alberto Ammann, Clémentine Poidatz, Anamaria Marinca and Cosima Shaw. They are joined by new cast members Esai Morales, Roxy Sternberg, Gunnar Cauthery, Levi Fiehler, Evan Hall, Akbar Kurtha and Jeff Hephner. The second season of the drama jumps ahead several years into the future after the Daedalus astronauts have built a full-fledged colony called Olympus Town. Dee Johnson (Nashville, ER, The Good Wife) who has previously collaborated with Reitzell on the Starz series Boss is the new showrunner. Ron Howard & Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13) are producing the Imagine Entertainment and Radical Media production with Michael Rosenberg, Wilkes and Jon Kamen. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis have scored 2016’s first season. Season 2 of Mars will premiere later this year on Nat Geo.
Reitzell (Hannibal, Friday Night Lights, 30 Days of Night, Stranger Than Fiction) is also expected to return as the composer for the second season of Starz’s American Gods.
