Composers Michael Giacchino, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez, Germaine Franco and co-director and lyricist Adrian Molina were honored in the Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated Feature Production category for the music from Pixar’s hit movie Coco. Giacchino, Franco and Molina accepted their award in person at tonight’s 45th Annie Awards at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The other contenders in the category were Theodore Shapiro for Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, Clint Mansell for Loving Vincent, Christophe Beck & Jeff Morrow for Disney’s Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and Mychael & Jeff Danna for The Breadwinner. Giacchino has previously won four Annie Awards for Pixar’s The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Inside Out, as well as the Disney TV special Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice, while Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez previously received the award for Frozen.
In the Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production category, Christopher Willis was honored with his fourth Annie Award for Disney Television Animation’s Disney Mickey Mouse. The composer also accepted his award in person at the event.
I dunno. Coco was good, but the Breadwinner may have honestly been a little better.
