Cliff Martinez is set to reteam with Nicolas Winding Refn on the upcoming Amazon original series Too Old To Die Young. The show is written by Winding Refn & comic author Ed Brubaker (Captain America, The Fade In) and explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles. Miles Teller is set to star in the drama as a grieving police officer who finds himself in an underworld filled with working-class hit men, Yakuza soldiers, cartel assassins sent from Mexico, Russian mafia captains and gangs of teen killers. Refn will be directing all ten episodes of the show’s first season. Martinez has previously scored the director’s last three features, Drive, Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon. Too Old To Die Young is expected to premiere in 2018 on Amazon Prime.
As previously reported, Martinez also has the comedy Game Night coming up. The composer is also scoring the upcoming action thriller Den of Thieves. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Christian Gudegast (London Has Fallen, A Man Apart) and stars Gerard Butler, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Evan Jones, Cooper Anderson, Maurice Compte, Kaiwai Lyman-Mersereau, Mo McRae, Meadow Williams and Brian Van Holt. Gudegast also wrote the screenplay based on a story by himself and Paul Scheuring (Prison Break). The movie follows an elite crew of bank robbers who sets out to pull off the ultimate heist. Mark Canton (300, Immortals) and Tucker Tooley (We’re The Millers) are producing the project with Butler & Alan Siegel (Olympus Has Fallen, Law Abiding Citizen). Den of Thieves will be released on January 19, 2018 by STX Entertainment. Martinez has also previously scored STX’s The Foreigner, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
