Annette Focks is reteaming with director Bille August on the upcoming biographical drama 55 Steps. The film starring Helena Bonham Carter, Hilary Swank and Jeffrey Tambor tells the true story of a mentally ill woman fighting the powerful psychiatric establishment for greater self-control, and the lawyer who becomes her champion and friend. Mark Rosin wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Anita Elsani and Sara Risher (Raise Your Vice, Lila & Eve).
Focks and August (The House of the Spirits, Pelle the Conqueror) have previously collaborated on Night Train to Lisbon, Silent Heart and this year’s The Chinese Widow. 55 Steps will premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival.
