Martin Phipps has been hired to score the upcoming period drama The Aftermath. The film is directed by James Kent (Testament of Youth, The Thirteenth Tale) and stars Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgard, Jason Clarke, Alexander Scheer, Kate Phillips, Martin Compston and Fionn O’Shea. The movie based on the novel by Rhidian Brook takes place in the aftermath of World War II and follows a British colonel and his wife who are assigned to live in Hamburg during the post-war reconstruction. Joe Shrapnel & Anna Waterhouse (Race, Frankie & Alice) wrote the screenplay. Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien, The Martian) is producing the project through his Scott Free production company, alongside Malte Grunert (A Most Wanted Man, Perfect Sense) and Jack Arbuthnott. The Aftermath is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year and will be distributed in the U.S. by Fox Searchlight.
Phipps’ recent scoring credits include the mini-series War & Peace, the Amazon pilot Oasis and the feature drama Woman in Gold. He also co-scored the ITV series Victoria, which will return for a second season later this year.
