Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy epic The Great Wall directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Matt Damon, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Hanyu Zhang, Eddie Peng, Lu Han, Kenny Lin, Junkai Wang and Zheng Kai. The film’s original music is composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Iron Man, Pacific Rim). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the psychological thriller A Cure for Wellness directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Dane DeHaan, Jason Isaacs and Mia Goth. Benjamin Wallfisch (Lights Out, Hidden Figures, The Escapist, Desert Dancer) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. The third wide release this week is the comedy Fist Fight directed by Richie Keen and starring Ice Cube, Charlie Day, Tracy Morgan, Jillian Bell, Dean Norris, Christina Hendricks, Dennis Haysbert and JoAnna Garcia Swisher. The film’s original music is composed by Dominic Lewis (Money Monster, The Man in the High Castle, Free Birds). No soundtrack album has been announced. Opening in limited release this week is the drama Lovesong directed by So Yong Kim and starring Jena Malone, Riley Keough, Brooklyn Decker, Ryan Eggold, Rosanna Arquette, Amy Seimetz and Marshall Chapman. Johann Johannsson (Arrival, Sicario, The Theory of Everything, Prisoners) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the drama In Dubious Battle directed by James Franco and starring himself, Nat Wolff, Selena Gomez, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, Sam Shepard, Zach Braff and Josh Hutcherson. The film’s original music is composed by Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) (Lion, The Boy). No soundtrack album is currently available. Also opening in limited release is the thriller Ghost of New Orleans directed by Predrag Antonijevic and starring Josh Lucas, Terrence Howard, Lake Bell, Sharon Leal and Cary Elwes. David Robbins (Dead Men Walking, Bob Roberts, King of California) has composed the film’s original music. The movie revolves around a disgraced detective who has a supernatural encounter which leads him to investigate the murder of a beautiful cellist that unlocks the truth behind her mysterious death. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by SP Releasing.
Also opening in select cities is the fantasy thriller American Fable directed by Anne Hamilton and starring Peyton Kennedy, Kip Pardue, Zuleikha Robinson, Gavin MacIntosh, Rusty Schwimmer, Marci Miller and Richard Schiff. The film’s original music is composed by Gingger Shankar (Circumstance). American Fable is set in the 1980s rural Midwest where an imaginative girl is forced to choose between protecting her family’s secret and saving a man’s life. The thriller premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by IFC Midnight. Visit the official movie website for more information.
