Three new movies are opening nationwide:
Opening in most theaters is the directed by F. Javier Gutierrez and starring Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio. The film’s original music is composed by Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Eddie the Eagle). Hans Zimmer who scored the original The Ring movie serves as the project’s executive music producer. According to the film’s credits, a soundtrack album will be released by Paramount Music, but no announcement has been made. Also opening wide is the sci-fi romance The Space Between Us directed by Peter Chelsom and starring Gary Oldman, Asa Butterfield, Britt Robertson, Carla Gugino, BD Wong, Janet Montgomery and Scott Takeda. Andrew Lockington (San Andreas, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) has composed the film’s score. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film by Ingrid Michaelson, Crystal Fighters, BØRNS, BANNERS and James Bay. The third wide release of the week is the comedy drama The Comedian directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Robert De Niro, Leslie Mann, Danny Devito, Edie Falco, Veronica Ferres, Charles Grodin, Cloris Leachman, Patti Lupone, Lois Smith and Harvey Keitel. The film’s original music is composed by Terence Blanchard (Inside Man, 25th Hour, Malcolm X) who collaborated with jazz musicians such as Kenny Barron, Carl Allen, David Pulphus, Ravi Coltrane & Khari Allen Lee on the project. Opening in limited release is the documentary I Am Not Your Negro directed by Raoul Peck and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson about James Baldwin’s unfinished novel, Remember This House, which focuses on the story of race in modern America. The film’s original music is composed by Aleksey Aygi (The Horde). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and was honored last month with an Academy Award nomination in the Best Documentary category. Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama Youth in Oregon directed by Joel David Moore and starring Frank Langella, Billy Crudup, Christina Applegate, Mary Kay Place, Josh Lucas, Nicola Peltz and Alex Shaffer. Joel P. West (Short Term 12, Grandma) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been released. The movie centers on man who is tasked with driving his 80-year-old father-in-law cross country to be legally euthanized in Oregon. The dramedy premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by Samuel Goldwyn Films. Visit the official movie website for more details.
Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the country music drama Wheeler directed by Ryan Ross and starring Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, Bobby Tomberlin, Audrey Spillman, Bart Herbison, Jim Ed Norton and Travis Meadows. Dorff also composed and performed the film’s music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the actor/singer/songwriter’s music, as well as a track by Kristofferson. Another limited release this week is the comedy War on Everyone written and directed by John Michael McDonagh and starring Michael Peña, Alexander Skarsgård, Theo James, Tessa Thompson, Caleb Landry Jones, Paul Reiser, Stephanie Sigman and David Wilmot. The film’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, Terminator Genisys, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi). No soundtrack album has been released. Also opening in select cities is the horror thriller Eloise directed by Robert Legato and starring Chace Crawford, Eliza Dushku, Robert Patrick, Nicole Forester and Brandon T. Jackson. Ronen Landa (The Pact, Cavemen, At the Devil’s Door) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release.
