Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi adventure Rogue One: A Star Wars Story directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Star Trek, Up, Inside Out, Jurassic World, Doctor Strange). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, which also features themes by John Williams. Also opening wide is the drama Collateral Beauty directed by David Frankel and stars Will Smith, Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Peña and Naomie Harris. Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Ghostbusters, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me, St. Vincent) has composed the film’s original score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a new mix of the One Direction song Let’s Hurt Tonight. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding nationwide next week is the drama Fences directed by Denzel Washington who also stars in the film with Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson and Saniyya Sydney. The film’s original music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Good Shepherd, The Affair, Ray Donovan, The Words) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie. Check out our previous news article for the full album details.
Also opening in limited release is the Argentine drama Neruda directed by Pablo Larraín and starring Gael García Bernal, Luis Gnecco and Mercedes Morán. The film’s original music is composed by Federico Jusid (The Secret in Their Eyes, Isabel, Misconduct). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows an inspector who hunts down a Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet who becomes a fugitive in his home country in the late 1940s for joining the Communist Party. The drama, which received a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category, is being released by the Orchard.
Also opening in select theaters is the thriller Solace directed by Afonso Poyart and starring Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Abbie Cornish, Marley Shelton, Xander Berkeley, Sharon Lawrence, Janine Turner and Matt Gerald. BT (The Fast and the Furious, Go, Monster, Catch & Release) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows an FBI agent who links up with a doctor with psychic abilities to hunt down a serial killer, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate Premiere.
Also opening in select cities is the thriller A Kind of Murder directed by Andy Goddard and starring Patrick Wilson, Jessica Biel, Vincent Kartheiser, Haley Bennett and Eddie Marsan. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (The Gift, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Enemy, Magic Magic, The One I Love). The movie is set in 1960s New York and follows a successful architect whose with an unsolved murder leads him into a spiral of chaos. The thriller is being released by Magnolia Pictures and is also available on VOD. Visit the official movie website for more information.
