John Debney is set to compose the music for the upcoming Chinese action fantasy adventure League of Gods. The film is directed by Koan Xu and stars Jet Li, Fan Bingbing, Louis Koo, Angelababy, Andy On and Xu Qing. The movie is based on the 16th century ancient novel Fengshen Bang and tells the story of King Zhou of Shang who becomes a tyrant due to the wiles of Daji, a vixen spirit who is disguised as one of his concubines. Charles Heung and Tiffany Chen are producing the China Star production. League of Gods is expected to be released in China and Hong Kong later this year or in early 2017. No domestic distribution deal has been announced yet. (Variety)
Debney whose recent projects include The Jungle Book and Mother’s Day, both of which are currently playing in theaters, has recently recorded his score for Ice Age: Collision Course, which will be released in the U.S. on July 22. The composer is also set to compose the music for Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge starring Andrew Garfield, set to open on November 4, 2016 by Lionsgate.
I’m just waiting for another LAIR-type score…
Just heard on Debney’s twitter that this soundtrack will be getting a commercial release. Excellent news.
Hope them Intrada boys pick this one up, just like they did for the Monkey King duos. Would be darn shame if all we ever see of this title is some “review” for promos.
Saw liamdude5’s comment only after I hit the submit button. Well. Nevermind. ^_^
