Premiering tomorrow, April 4, is the HBO original movie Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures directed by Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato. The film’s original music is composed by David Benjamin Steinberg. The documentary centers on Robert Mapplethorpe and profiles the controversial artist from early childhood, to his beginnings in NYC and his meteoric rise in the art world, to his untimely death in 1989. The movie premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was also shown at the Berlin Film Festival. To learn more about the film, visit HBO’s official website.
Missing from last week’s TV music roundup was the new TV Land comedy Lopez created by John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky and starring George Lopez, Anthony “Citric” Campos, Hayley Huntley, James Michael Connor, Maronzio Vance & Ashley Zamora. Alan Ett (The Girls Next Door) is composing the show’s original music. Lopez explores how the Hispanic American comedian struggles between his two worlds and crises – often of his own making.
