Hollywood Chamber Orchestra music directors Noah Gladstone and Mark Robertson today announced that Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Carnivale, Appaloosa, Pollock) will conduct the world premiere of his score to the 2013 documentary Blackfish, live-to-picture, on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Montalbán Theater in Hollywood. The movie, which centers on the controversial captivity of killer whales, premiered in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in January 2013 and was released in theaters later that year by Magnolia Pictures. The film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite was also one of the first projects selected by CNN to be distributed via their 24-hour news channel. Beal’s Blackfish score is available on Off the Grid Music. The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra’s recent concerts have included performances at the International Horn Society’s 2015 convention at Colburn School’s Zipper Hall, and at the Montalbán Theater, presenting violinist Martin Chalifour as soloist in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Upcoming projects for the ensemble include recording Jeremy Zuckerman’s score to the documentary BearTrek, an album of trance music by composer Ashoka Thiagarajan, and two classical concerts to performed in July 2016. Visit the orchestra’s official Facebook page for more information and updates on ticket sales.
