Alexandre Desplat has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature The Secret Life of Pets. The film is directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, The Lorax) & Yarrow Cheney and features the voice talent of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. The movie revolves around the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. Chris Meledandri (Despicable Me series, Minions) is producing the Illumination Entertainment production with Janet Healey. Brian Lynch (Minions, Hop, Puss in Boots) and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio (Despicable Me, Horton Hears a Who!) have written the screenplay. The project marks Desplat’s third major animated feature following The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Rise of the Guardians. The Secret Life of Pets will be released on July 8, 2016 by Universal Pictures. Desplat’s recent projects include Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, which is currently playing in limited release, as well as Suffragette, which is also playing in select theaters. The composer has also composed the music for Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans (set for release in 2016) and is set to score Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
I liked the look of it from the trailer, but a lot of those jokes are in the first ten minutes…it’s a shame, really. My fault for watching trailers! Actually the adventure stuff isn’t terrible, it’s just that it hits that note from about 15 minutes and stays on it to 1 hr 20 or so. But kids like it, and there are some good moments therein.
