Terence Blanchard is currently recording his score for Spike Lee’s upcoming drama Chi-Raq. The movie stars Teyohonah Parris, Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, La La Anthony, John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, D.B. Sweeney, Harry Lennix and Steve Harris. The film has been described as a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago. Lee has also co-written the screenplay with Kevin Willmott. Blanchard’s music is being recorded at the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage on the Sony lot in Culver City, CA. The composer has previously collaborated with Lee on such films as Malcolm X, Inside Man, The 25th Hour, Jungle Fever and most recently, on 2008’s Miracle of St. Anna. Chi-Raq is expected to premiere later this year on Amazon.
