Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the action reboot The Transporter Refueled directed by Camille Delamarre and starring Ed Skrein, Ray Stevenson, Loan Shabanon, Gabriella Wright, Radivoje Bukvić, Anatole Taubman, Wenxia Yu and Tatiana Pajković. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Azaria (Lockout, Love and Other Disasters) who previously scored the second and third part in the original trilogy. EuropaCorp has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by The Animals, Selah Sue, Mani Hoffman, The Leons & more. Already playing in theaters since Wednesday is the comedy drama A Walk in the Woods directed by Ken Kwapis and starring Robert Redford, Nick Nolte, Nick Offerman, Kristen Schaal, Mary Steenburgen and Emma Thompson. Nathan Larson (Boys Don’t Cry, Show Me a Hero, Margin Call, Our Idiot Brother) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring two tracks from the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film by Lord Huron, Blake Mills, Dwight Yoakum, Great Lake Swimmers and Shovels & Rope. Opening in limited release is the romantic comedy drama Before We Go directed by Chris Evans who also stars in the film alongside Alice Eve. The movie’s original music is composed by Chris Westlake (Transit, My Uncle Rafael, Little People, Big World). No soundtrack album has been announced, but check out several tracks from the composer’s score on his official website. Before We Go is set in Manhattan and follows two strangers who form an unlikely bond after their serendipitous meeting in Grand Central. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released in select theaters and VOD by TWC-Radius.
Also opening in limited release is the documentary Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine directed by Alex Gibney (The Taxi to the Dark Side) about a the mercurial and difficult genius who co-founded and later came back to rescue Apple, now the world’s most valuable company. Will Bates (Another Earth, I Origins, Lola Versus) who previously scored Gibney’s We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The documentary premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released in select theaters and on VOD by Magnolia Pictures. Also opening in select theaters is the comedy Break Point directed by Jay Karas and starring Jeremy Sisto, David Walton, Amy Smart, J.K. Simmons, Joshua Rush, Vincent Ventresca, Chris Parnell and Adam Devine. Tim Anderson (I’m in Love with a Churchgirl) has composed the film’s original score and Aron Forbes and Chris Spilfogel have also provided music to the film. Break Point follows two estranged brothers who reunite to make an improbable run at a grand slam tennis tournament. The comedy premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by Broad Green Pictures. Visit the official movie website for more information.
Another limited release this week is the indie drama Chloe & Theo written and directed by Ezna Sands and starring Dakota Johnson, Theo Ikummaq, Ashley Springer, André De Shields and Mira Sorvino. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Life of Crime, Detachment, Pawn Shop Chronicles). No word yet on a soundtrack album. Chloe & Theo follows an Inuit man from the Arctic who travels to New York City to warn world leaders about the impact of global warming on the planet and meets a homeless woman. Also opening in select cities is the Chinese period action adventure Dragon Blade written and directed by Daniel Lee and starring Jackie Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody. Henry Lai (14 Blades) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album is currently available. Dragon Blade follows a commander of the protectorate of the western regions, who teams up with a Roman general to protect China’s borders and sovereignty. The movie is being released by Lionsgate Premiere both in theaters and on VOD.
