Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Black Mass. The film is directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) and stars Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, Rory Cochrane, Sienna Miller and Adam Scott. The movie tells the true story of Whitey Bulger, the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf. Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow, Fair Game, Get On Up) wrote the screenplay based on the book by Dick Lehr & Gerard O’Neill. John Lesher (Birdman, Fury, End of Watch) is producing the project with Cooper, Brian Oliver (Black Swan, Rush), Patrick McCormick (Jack the Giant Slayer, Peter Pan) and Tyler Thompson (Everest). Holkenborg’s latest project, Mad Max: Fury Road will open in theaters next weekend. As previously reported, the composer also has the Point Break reboot, as well as Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which he is co-scoring with Hans Zimmer, coming up.
