Paul Weitz has been hired to score the upcoming indie comedy Grandma. The film is written and directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy, In Good Company, American Pie) and stars Lily Tomlin, Julia Garner, Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, Laverne Cox and Sam Elliott. The movie follows a self-described misanthrope who has her protective bubble burst when her 18-year-old granddaughter shows up needing help. Weitz is also producing the project with Andrew Miano (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, A Single Man), Terry Dougas (Jane Got a Gun) and Paris Latsis. Grandma is set to premiere next month at the Sundance Film Festival.
West whose previous scoring credits include the indies Short Term 12 and About Alex also has the comedic thriller Band of Robbers coming up. The film is written and directed by Adam & Aaron Nee (The Last Romantic) and stars Kyle Gallner, Adam Nee, Matthew Gray Gubler, Hannibal Buress, Melissa Benoist, Eric Christian Olsen, Daniel Edward Mora and Stephen Lang. The movie is based on Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and imagines the books’ characters as grown-ups in a modern-day setting. John Will is producing the Torn Sky Entertainment and Whitewater Films production with Rick Rosenthal & Matt Ratner (Match) and Arun Kumar. Band of Robbers is expected to be released in 2015.
