Only one new movie is opening wide this weekend:
Expected to have the biggest opening of the year at the domestic box office is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Woody Harrelson. The film’s original score is composed by James Newton Howard who previously scored the first two installments in the series. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film, including the original song Yellow Flicker Beat by Lorde who curated the album. Opening in limited release is the drama Reach Me written and directed by John Herzfeld and starring Sylvester Stallone, Tom Berenger, Kevin Connolly, Kyra Sedgwick, Nelly, Kelsey Grammer, Cary Elwes, Terry Crews, Ryan Kwanten and Tom Sizemore. Tree Adams (Californication, Perception) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a score release. Simba Records has released an EP featuring three songs from the film by Frank Stallone. Also opening in select theaters is the documentary Food Chains directed by Sanjay Rawal, executive produced by Eva Longoria and narrated by Forest Whitaker. The film’s original music is composed by Gil Talmi (Savannah). Konsonant Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Food Chains, which follows group of farm workers battling the global supermarket industry and revealing the abuse of farm laborers in the United States, is being released by Screen Media Films.
Also opening in select cities is the sci-fi horror thriller Extraterrestrial written and directed by The Vicious Brothers and starring Michael Ironside, Freddie Stroma, Melanie Papalia, Brittany Allen and Gil Bellows. Blitz/Berlin has composed the film’s original music. Wax Records has released a single featuring a track from the score. Visit iTunes to download the cue and to listen to an audio sample. Extraterrestrial follows a group of friends on a weekend trip to an inevitable cabin in the woods where they find themselves terrorized by aliens. Another limited release this weekend is the indie drama The Sleepwalker directed by Mona Fastvold and starring Gitte Witt, Christopher Abbott, Brady Corbet and Stephanie Ellis. The film’s original music is composed by Sondre Lerche (Dan in Real Life) and Kato Ådland. A soundtrack album featuring the movie’s score was released earlier this year. Khoury and starring Connie Nielsen, Sara Paxton, Jonathan Sadowski, David Aaron Baker, Al Thompson and Erin Wilhelmi. Didier Rachou (Deadliest Catch, Gold Rush: Alaska) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. All Relative follows a New Yorker who courts his new girlfriend with the advice of a seductive divorcee – only to be thrown into a living nightmare when a shared secret ratchets up the tension during a weekend with her parents. The movie premiered at this year’s Woodstock Film Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by FilmBuff.
