Craig Armstrong has composed the original music for the upcoming drama Far from the Madding Crowd. The film is directed by Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt, Dear Wendy, It’s All About Love) and stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge, and Juno Temple. The movie is based on the 1874 novel of the same title by Thomas Hardy and tells the story of an independent and headstrong woman who attracts three very different suitors: a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and a prosperous and mature bachelor. David Nicholls (One Day, Starter for 10, Mike Newell’s Great Expectations) has written the screenplay. Allon Reich (28 Weeks Later, Never Let Me Go) and Andrew Macdonald (Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later…) are producing the project for DNA Films. Christine Langan is executive producing for BBC Films. Far from the Madding Crowd is set to be released on May 1, 2015 by Fox Searchlight.
As previously reported, Armstrong whose previous film scoring credits include such titles as Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, The Incredible Hulk, Baz Luhrman’s Romeo & Juliet and The Bone Collector also has Paul McGuigan’s new film adaptation of Frankenstein starring Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy coming up.
I just love this! His music for drama movies is exquisite.
