imageMateo Messina is currently scoring the upcoming action comedy Barely Lethal. The film is directed by Kyle Newman (Fanboys) and stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophie Turner, Gabriel Basso, Dan Fogler, Dove Cameron, Thomas Mann and Jaime King. The movie follows a young international assassin who yearns for a “normal” adolescence, prompting her to fake her own death and enroll in a suburban high school. John D’Arco has written the screenplay. Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand, John Cheng, Sukee Chew (Jesus Henry Christ), Vanessa Coifman (Fireflies in the Garden, A Late Quartet) and Ted Hartley (Mighty Joe Young, Are We Done Yet?) are producing the RKO Pictures, Main Street Films, Hopscotch Pictures and RatPac Entertainment production. Barely Lethal is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year.

Messina whose previous scoring credits include Juno, Butter and NBC’s Growing Up Fisher has recently finished scoring the first season of the adventure drama Crossbones starring John Malkovich, which currently airs Friday nights on NBC.
