Jed Kurzel is currently scoring the upcoming drama Macbeth. The film is directed by the composer’s brother, Justin Kurzel, and stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cottilard, Sean Harris, Elizabeth Debicki, Paddy Considine and David Thewlis. The movie is based on the play by William Shakespeare and follows General Macbeth whose ambitious wife urges him to use wicked means in order to gain power of the throne over the sitting king. Jacob Koskoff & Todd Louiso (The Marc Pease Experiment) have written the screenplay. Iain Canning & Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech, Shame) are producing the project through their See-Saw Films production company. Jed Kurzel has previously scored the 2011 feature The Snowtown Murders for his brother. Macbeth is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year. The Weinstein Company will release the movie in the U.S.
Kurzel has also composed the music for the horror thriller The Babadook, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by IFC Films for domestic distribution. Also coming up for the composer is the crime drama Son of a Gun. The film is written and directed by Julius Avery and stars Ewan McGregor, Alicia Vikander and Brenton Thwaites. The movie centers on the relationship between between Australia’s highest profile criminal and his young protege. Timothy White (Ned Kelly, Oscar and Lucinda, The Boys Are Back) is producing the project. A24 Films has picked up U.S. distribution rights for the film. No release date has been announced yet.
