Joey Newman has been hired to score the upcoming NBC drama The Mysteries of Laura. The show is created by Jeff Rake based on the Spanish-language series Los Misterios de Laura and stars Debra Messing, Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso and Janina Gavankar. The series follows the life and relationships of a female NYPD homicide detective who balances her day job with a crazy family life that includes two unruly twin boys and a soon-to-be ex-husband who just can’t seem to sign the divorce paper. McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator: Salvation) has directed the pilot episode and also serves as an executive producer on the Warner Bros. Television production alongside Rake, Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters, Everwood) and Aaron Kaplan (Terra Nova, The Neighbors). The Mysteries of Laura is set to premiere this fall and will air every Wednesday night on NBC. For updates on the drama, visit the official show website.
Newman, the grandson of famed composer and conductor Lionel Newman, also continues to score the ABC hit comedy The Middle, which has recently been renewed for a sixth season. He is also currently scoring TLC’s Little People, Big World and Syfy’s Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge. His previous scoring credits include such shows as Privileged, Clubhouse and Once and Again, as well as the features Any Day Now, One Night Surprise, The Space Between, My Uncle Rafael, and the Oscar-nominated short film Adam and Dog.
