Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is the space drama Gravity directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. The film’s original score is composed by Steven Price (The World’s End, Attack the Block). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Also opening wide this week is the thriller Runner Runner directed by Brad Furman and starring Justin Timberlake, Gemma Arterton, Ben Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Michael Esper, Oliver Cooper and Ben Schwartz. Christophe Beck (The Hangover trilogy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. A CD version will be released later this month. Opening in limited release is the historical drama Parkland written and directed by Peter Landesman and starring James Badge Dale, Zac Efron, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks, Marcia Gay Harden, Ron Livingston, Jeremy Strong, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver and Paul Giamatti. The film’s original music is composed by James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, King Kong, Signs). Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week. Also opening in limited release is the family drama Grace Unplugged directed by Brad J. Silverman and starring AJ Michalka, James Denton, Kevin Pollak, Jamie Grace, Chris Ellis, Michael Welch, Shawnee Smith, Mary Shaw, Chris Tomlin and Pia Toscano. Sparrow Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs by Michalka, as well as artists including TobyMac, Chris Tomlin, Colton Dixon and Jamie Grace (click here for the full details). The film’s original score is composed by Jeff Lippencott. Ah 2 Music has released a separate soundtrack featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy A.C.O.D. directed by Stuart Zicherman and starring Adam Scott, Richard Jenkins, Catherine O’Hara, Amy Poehler, Clark Duke, Jessica Alba and Jane Lynch. Nick Urata (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Ruby Sparks) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie about a man who learns he was enlisted in a study about divorced children many years ago and is ushered into a present-day follow-up study premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by The Film Arcade for domestic distribution. Also opening in select markets is the documentary Running Wild: The Life of Dayton O. Hyde produced and directed by Suzanne Mitchell about a modern cowboy and activist who has rescued 500 mustangs from wild horse roundups over the last 25 years. The film’s original music is composed by Steve Poltz (Bio-Dome) who is best known as a singer/songwriter and has collaborated with Jewel on a number of songs. Another limited release this week is the horror comedy Bad Milo directed by Jacob Vaughan and starring Ken Marino, Gillian Jacobs, Patrick Warburton, Mary Kay Place, Stephen Root, Peter Stormare. Ted Masur (The Best and the Brightest) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. Bad Milo follows a man who discovers the root of his unusual stomach pain: a pintsized demon living in his intestine that, triggered by excessive anxiety, forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him. Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy All Is Bright directed by Phil Morrison and starring Paul Giamatti, Paul Rudd, Sally Hawkins and Amy Landecker. Graham Reynolds (Before Midnight, Bernie) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. All Is Bright follows two Canadians and former partners in crime who travel to New York City and set up a Christmas tree stand in Brooklyn. The comedy premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival under the title Almost Christmas and was picked up by Anchor Bay for domestic distribution.
