Three new movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action sequel Fast & Furious 6 directed by Justin Lin and starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Luke Evans, Gina Carano and John Ortiz. Def Jam Recordings has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs featured in the film by artists including 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa, T.I., deadmau5 feat. Cypress Hills and and Ludacris feat. Also opening wide is the animated feature Epic directed by Chris Wedge and featuring the voice talent of Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari, Blake Anderson, Judah Friedlander and Beyoncé Knowles. Danny Elfman has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classics has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. The final wide release of the week is the comedy sequel The Hangover Part III directed by Todd Phillips and starring Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha, John Goodman, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman and Jamie Chung. Christophe Beck who has scored the previous two movies returned to provide the score for the final part in the trilogy. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Billy Joel, Hanson, The Cramps, The Coasters, Danzig and Harry Nilsson. Varese Sarabande will release a separate soundtrack featuring selections from Beck’s scores from all movies of the Hangover trilogy on June 25, 2013.
Opening in limited release is the indie drama Before Midnight directed by Richard Linklater and starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Graham Reynolds (Bernie, A Scanner Darkly) had composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the end credits song Gia Ena Tango by Charis Alexiou earlier this week. Also opening in limited release is the documentary We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks directed by Alex Gibney about the creation of Julian Assange’s controversial website, which facilitated the largest security breach in U.S. history. The film’s original score is composed by Fall On Your Sword (Another Earth, Lola Versus). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week.
