Mark Bradshaw has signed on to score the upcoming World War II drama Resistance. The film based on a novel by Owen Sheer takes place in an alternative 1944, where Russia has fallen to Nazi Germany and the D-Day landings have failed. The story centers on a group of women in an isolated Welsh village who wake up to discover all of the their husbands have mysteriously vanished. The movie is directed by Amit Gupta and stars Andrea Riseborough, Tom Wlaschiha and Michael Sheen. Richard Holmes (Waking Ned Devine, Eden Lake) and Amanda Faber are producing. Rachel Portman was originally attached to score the project as reported by the Hollywood Reporter last fall, but had to leave the production due to a scheduling conflict. Bradshaw is best known for his music for Jane Campion’s Bright Star starring Abbie Cornish, Ben Whishaw and Paul Schneider, which received an Academy Award nomination for best costume design in 2010. The composer has received positive critical attention for his score for the film, which was released on CD by Lakeshore Records. No release date has been set yet for Resistance, but an announcement is expected in the near future.
