Film Music Reporter has learned that Edward Shearmur has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming comedy Jumping the Broom. He is replacing composers Wendy and Lisa (Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman), who have previously been hired to score the film as reported last November. The movie directed by Salim Akil stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen and centers around two very different African American families that converge on Martha’s Vineyard one weekend for a wedding. Jumping the Broom will be released for Mother’s Day weekend on May 6, 2011 by Sony Pictures. Watch the recently released new trailer below and check the official movie webpage for updates on the film.
Shearmur also has the family movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules coming up as reported last month. The composer just recorded the score for the sequel this week on the Newman Stage on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles. The film will be released on March 25, 2011.
Any word with why Wendy & Lisa left the project?
