Carter Burwell has been hired to score the upcoming HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce. The five part series is directed by Todd Haynes (I’m Not There, Far From Heaven, Velvet Goldmine) and follows a divorced single mom who decides to open a restaurant business, which tears at the already-strained relationship with her her ambitious elder daughter. Mildred Pierce stars Kate Winslet, Evan Rachel Wood and Guy Pearce. The project marks Burwell’s first TV mini-series and second collaboration with HBO after the 1993 drama And The Band Played On.
He also has the upcoming western True Grit coming out later this year. He is planning to record the score for the Coen Bros directed movie starring Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Jeff Bridges at the end of October. Burwell’s music can currently still be heard in theaters in the drama The Kids Are All Right. The indie drama Howl starring James Franco, which Burwell scored last year and which premiered in Sundance earlier this year opens in limited release this weekend.
“The project marks Burwell’s first TV mini-series and collaboration with HBO.”
Miniseries, yes, but Burwell scored “And The Band Played On” for HBO.
Thanks for pointing that out. Just corrected it in the original posting.
