Opening semi-wide in several hundred theaters is the animated feature Dragonkeeper directed by Salvador Simó & Li Jianping and starring Bill Nighy, Bill Bailey, Anthony Howell and Mayalinee Griffiths. Opening in New York and Los Angeles today before expanding nationwide on May 17 is the horror thriller I Saw the TV Glow written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun and starring Justice Smith, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Helena Howard, Ian Foreman, Fred Durst and Danielle Deadwyler. Alex G (We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) has composed the film’s original score. A24 Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music on May 16. The label will also release a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie by artists such as Yeule, Florist & Caroline Polachek. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the Japanese drama Evil Does Not Exist written and directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi and starring Hitoshi Omika, Ryo Nishikawa, Ryuji Kosaka, Ayaka Shibutani, Hazuki Kikuchi and Hiroyuki Miura. The film’s original music is composed by Eiko Ishibashi (Drive My CarBlade of the Immortal). Drag City will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on June 28. Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in LoveBilly Elliott, Quills, ProofCaptain Corelli’s Mandolin) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select theaters is the drama Wildcat co-written and directed by Ethan Hawke and starring Maya Hawke, Laura Linney, Philip Ettinger, Cooper Hoffman, Rafael Casal, Steve Zahn, Alessandro Nivola, Vincent D’Onofrio, Christine Dye and Willa Fitzgerald. The film’s original music is composed by Shelby Gaines (who also co-wrote the screenplay) & Latham Gaines (The Kid). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which explores the life and art of American author Flannery O’Connor, premiered at last year’s Telluride Film Festival and is being distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French animated feature Mars Express co-written and directed by Jérémie Périn. Fred Avril (The LifeguardJust the Three of Us, I Am Not an Easy Man, Pearl) & Philippe Monthaye have composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score last fall when the movie opened in France.
