Leo Birenberg (Cobra Kai, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Son of Zorn, PEN15) and singer/songwriter Charli XCX have composed the original score for the upcoming comedy Bottoms. The film is directed by Emma Seligman (Shiva Baby) and stars Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebiri, Havana Rose Liu, Ruby Cruz, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Galitzine, Marshawn Lynch, Miles Fowler, Dagmara Dominiczyk and Punkie Johnson. The movie follows two unpopular girls in their senior year who start a fight club to try to impress and hook up with cheerleaders. Seligman & Sennott also co-wrote the screenplay. Brownstone Productions’ Elizabeth Banks & Max Handelman (Cocaine Bear, Pitch Perfect) and Alison Small are producing the Orion Pictures production. Birenberg has previously co-scored the first season of the Banks- & Handelman-produced Peacock series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin and also composed the score for Orion’s Anything’s Possible directed by Billy Porter. Bottoms is premiering this weekend at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival.
