Volker Bertelmann (aka Hauschka) (LionAdriftPatrick MelroseGunpowder) has been hired to score the upcoming British romantic drama Summerland. The film marks the directorial debut of British playwright Jessica Swale and stars Gemma Arterton, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Penelope Wilton, Tom Courtenay, Lucas Bond and Dixie Egerickx. The World War II-set movie centers on a private and reclusive writer who finds herself being put responsible for the care of a young man after the London Blitz. Guy Heeley (Locke, Serenity, The Escape) and Adrian Sturges (The Escapist, The Disappearance of Alice Creed) are producing the project. Summerland is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.

Also coming up for Bertelmann is Simon Curtis’ The Art of Racing in the Rain (co-scored with Dustin O’Halloran) and the TV shows The Name of the Rose and The Dublin Murders.
