Atlantic Records will release a second soundtrack album for Nate Parker’s drama The Birth of a Nation. The album features the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class, Big Hero 6, Captain Phillips). Also included is the song Strange Fruit by Nina Simone. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, October 21 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, the label has also released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from and inspired by the movie. The Birth of a Nation is co-written and directed by Parker who also stars in the movie alongside Armie Hammer, Mark Boone Jr., Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Dwight Henry, Gabrielle Union, Penelope Ann Miller, Aja Naomi King, Esther Scott, Roger Guenveur Smith, and Jackie Earle Haley. The film tells the true story of Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher who devised a plan to lead his people to freedom. The drama premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was released in theaters nationwide earlier this month by Fox Searchlight. Visit the official movie website to learn more about the film.
