Thomas Newman has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi romance Passengers. The film is directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Aurora Perrineau. The movie is set on a spacecraft in the future traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people that has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early. Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, The Darkest Hour) has written the screenplay. Neal Moritz (Fast & Furious series, 21/22 Jump Street) and Ori Marmur (Battle Los Angeles) are producing the project for Original Film, alongside Michael Maher for Start Media and Stephen Hamel for Company Films. Passengers is set to be released on December 21, 2016 by Sony Pictures.
