Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are set to compose original songs for a new Mary Poppins feature, which is currently in development at Disney. They will also be writing a new score. Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is attached to direct the movie, which is set 20 years after actions of the 1964 classic movie and will be based in parts on P.L. Travers’ book series. David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) is writing the screenplay and John DeLuca (Into the Woods, Nine) and Marc Platt (Drive, Wanted, Legally Blonde) are producing the Walt Disney Pictures production. Shaiman and Wittman have previously written the songs for such stage musicals as Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Bombshell. Shaiman has also scored numerous features over the past three decades, including several projects for Disney, including Sister Act, George of the Jungle and The Kid. Well, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing songs and scoring “Mary Poppins” sequel and the film is directed by Rob Marshall.
So, Marc Shaiman, Rob Reiner’s collaborator and his longtime friend Scott Wittman came to work on score. This is awesome. It’s great.
