Mateo Messina has been tapped to score the new NBC adventure drama Crossbones. The show is created by Neil Cross (Luther) and stars John Malkovich, Yasmine Al Massri, Richard Coyle, Claire Foy, David Hoflin, Tracy Ifeachor and Chris Perfetti. The series is is set during the golden age of piracy in the 18th Century and centers on legendary pirate Blackbeard who reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreants. Cross is also executive producing the Universal Television production with Walter F. Parkes & Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black, Flight, The Ring), Ted Gold (Three Rivers) and Ciaran Donnelly (Vikings, The Tudors). David Slade (Hard Candy, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) has directed the pilot episode. Crossbones is set to premiere on May 30, 2014 and will air every Friday night on NBC. As previously reported, Messina (Juno, Butter, Fairly Legal) who recently scored the NBC comedy Growing Up Fisher also has composed the music for Phil Alden Robinson’s feature The Angriest Man in Brooklyn starring Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, James Earl Jones, Peter Dinklage and Melissa Leo. The comedy drama will be released in select theaters on May 23 by Lionsgate.
