Alberto Iglesias has two new projects coming out this year. He is currently finishing up the score for the French/Spanish co-production The Monk. The thriller is directed by German director Dominik Moll (Lemming) and stars Vincent Cassel and Geraldine Chaplin. The film is produced by Alvaro Longoria, who produced Steven Soderbergh’s Che movies which featured music by Iglesias. The Monk is an adaptation of the classic 1796 Gothic novel by Mathew Gregory Lewis and centers around Capucin Ambrosio, a pious, well-respected monk in Spain and his violent downfall. The film is currently scheduled to open in June in France and Spain.

Iglesias is also set to reunite with his regular collaborator Pedro Almadovar on his upcoming drama The Skin That I Inhabit (La Piel que habito). The film is based on Thierry Jonquet’s novel Mygale, a revenge tale that tells the story of a plastic surgeon on the hunt for the men who raped his daughter. The movie stars Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya and Marisa Paredes. The Skin That I Inhabit has already been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for domestic distribution and will most likely premiere at one of the major film festivals later this year.
