Bruno Coulais has recently recorded his score for the period drama Farewell, My Queen (Les adieux à la reine). The movie is directed by Benoit Jacquot (Right Now, A Single Girl) and stars Diane Kruger (National Treasure, Troy) as Marie-Antoinette. Lea Seydoux (Midnight in Paris) and Virginie Ledoyen (The Beach) are co-starring. The film is based on the prize-winning novel of the same name by Chantal Thomas and is set in the early days of the French revolution as people begin to revolt against the court of King Louis the XVI. The French/Spanish co-production is produced by Jean-Pierre Guerin, Kristina Larson and Pedro Uriol.

Bruno Coulais’ ‘La Clé Des Champs’ Soundtrack Released
A soundtrack album for the French family movie La clé des champs has recently been released. The album features the original music from the movie written by Academy Award-nominated composer Bruno Coulais (Coralime, The Chorus). The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon and the CD version is set to be released on January 17, 2012 in France (currently only available to pre-order as an import). La clé des champs is directed by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Pérennou and tells the story of two solitary children who come across a small undisturbed lake which exerts a sudden and intense control over them. The film premiered last week in France.
Bruno Coulais Scoring ‘My Worst Nightmare’
Bruno Coulais is the composer of the French comedy My Worst Nightmare (Mon pire cauchemar). The movie starring Isabelle Huppert, Benoît Poelvoorde, André Dussollier follows a married couple that suddenly find their lives turned upside down when a breezy worker is hired to do some renovations in their apartment. The film is directed by Anne Fontaine who last worked with composer Alexandre Desplat on the 2009 drama Coco Before Chanel. Bruno Pesery and Philippe Carcassonne (Coco Before Chanel) are producing. My Worst Nightmare will have its world premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival.
Bruno Coulais to score Babies
Bruno Coulais has been hired to score the upcoming documentary Babies. The movie simultaneously chronicles the lives of four of the world’s newest human inhabitants – in Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco, and Tokyo, respectively — from first breath to first steps, on a journey at once universal and amazingly original. The movie is directed by Thomas Balmes and will be released in the US this mother’s day weekend on May 7 by Focus Features. According to Coulais, the music for Babies was written for a very special orchestra that included a lot of toys, a string quintet, wind orchestra, ethnic instruments, piano and percussion. The score also features vocals by French artist Rosemary.
