Ariel Marx (Shiva Baby, A Friend of the Family, Candy, Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer, The Tale, Rebel Hearts) has been tapped to score the upcoming National Geographic limited series A Small Light. The show is developed by Joan Rater & Tony Phelan (Grey’s Anatomy, Fire Country) and stars Bel Powley, Joe Cole, Liev Schreiber, Amira Casar, Billie Boullet, Ashley Brooke, Eleanor Tomlinson, Andy Nyman, Caroline Catz, Sally Messham, Noah Taylor, Ian McElhinney, Nicholas Burns, Laurie Kynaston, Liza Sadovy and Sebastian Armesto. The 8-part drama tells the story of a 20-something secretary who didn’t hesitate when her boss, Otto Frank (father of Anne Frank), asked her to hide him and his family from the Nazis during World War II. Rater & Phelan serve as the project’s showrunners and are executive producing the ABC Signature production with Keshet’s Peter Traugott & Alon Shtruzman (La Brea, The Calling) & Lisa Roos, Avi Nir (Homeland, Echo 3), as well as Susanna Fogel (The Spy Who Dumped Me, Cat Person) who also directed multiple episodes. A Small Light will premiere this spring on National Geographic and Disney+.
Marx’s other recent projects include Laura Moss’ horror film Birth/Rebirth, which just premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and will debut this year on Shudder. She has also scored Sanctuary, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by Neon’s Super for a release later this year.
