Will Bates (Unbelievable, Away, The Magicians, I Origins, The Looming Tower, Nightflyers) has composed the original music for the upcoming period adventure drama Rajah. The film is directed by Michael Haussman and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Josie Ho and Dominic Monaghan. The movie tells the story of Sir James Brooke, the 19th century explorer whose fight for the indigenous people of Borneo saw him become the real-life role model for Joseph Conrad’s novel Lord Jim and Rudyard Kipling’s The Man Who Would Be King. Rob Allyn (Java Heat) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the Margate House Films and 852 Films production with Ho, Conor & Jake Allyn (No Man’s Land) and Conroy Chan (The Courier). Rajah is expected to be released in 2021.
Bates’ recent projects include Mike Cahill’s feature Bliss, which will premiere next year on Amazon Prime, as well as Alex Gibney’s documentary Crazy, Not Insane, which just premiered last month on HBO Max.
