Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Come Sunday) has signed on to score the upcoming psychological drama Shirley. The film is directed by Josephine Decker (Madeline’s Madeline) and stars Elisabeth Moss, Michael Stuhlbarg, Logan Lerman and Odessa Young. The movie tells the story of a young couple that moves in with famed horror author Shirley Jackson and her husband in the hopes of starting a new life and find themselves fodder for a psycho-drama that inspires Jackson’s next major novel. Sarah Gubbins (I Love Dick) wrote the screenplay based on the novel of the same title by Susan Scarf Merrell. She is also producing the project with Jeffrey Soros & Simon Horsman (Juliet, Naked, The Bye Bye Man), Christine Vachon (Carol, Far form Heaven), Sue Naegle (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) and David Hinojosa (First Reformed, Vox Lux). Shirley is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.
Tamar-kali also has Dee Rees’ The Last Thing He Wanted starring Anne Hathaway & Ben Affleck coming up. She also has composed the music for Blumhouse’s The Lie, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. No release date has been announced yet.
