Kevin Lax is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie Juanita. The film is directed by Clark Johnson (S.W.A.T., The Sentinel) and stars Alfre Woodard, Blair Underwood, Adam Beach, Marcus Henderson and LaTanya Richardson. The drama is based on Sheila Williams’ book Dancing on the Edge of the Roof and centers around a woman who is fed up with her deadbeat grown kids and marginal urban existence and takes a Greyhound bus to Montana, where she reinvents herself and finds her mojo. Roderick Spencer wrote the screenplay. Homegrown Pictures’ Stephanie Allain (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan) & Mel Jones and Mandalay Pictures’ Jason Michael Berman (The Birth of a Nation, Little Evil, LUV) are producing the project. Lax has previously scored this year’s Netflix movie Burning Sands produced by Berman. Juanita is expected to premiere in 2018.
