Brian Reitzell has signed on to compose the music for the upcoming Starz original series American Gods. The show is created by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) & Michael Green (Green Lantern) based on Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel and stars Rickey Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Jonathan Tucker, Crispin Glover, Cloris Leachman, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Chris Obi and Mousa Kraish. The drama follows a recently released ex-convict named Shadow who meets a mysterious man who calls himself “Wednesday” and who knows more than he first seems to about Shadow’s life and past. David Slade (Hard Candy, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) is directing the pilot episode and is also executive producing the project with Fuller, Green, Gaiman, Craig Cegielski (Camelot, The Tomorrow People and Stefanie Berk. Reitzell has previously scored the Fuller- & Slade-produced series Hannibal and also collaborated with Slade on the feature 30 Days of Night. The composer will also serve as the show’s music supervisor. American Gods is set to premiere in 2017 on Starz.
Reitzell also recently scored the indie drama Kicks, which premiered last month at the Tribeca Film Festival and is currently awaiting a domestic distribution deal.
