Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) are currently scoring the upcoming drama Lion. The film is directed by Garth Davis (Top of the Lake) and stars Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, David Wenham, Divian Ladwa, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Priyanka Bose, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval. The film is based on the book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley and centers on a street kid from Calcutta who is taken in and adopted by a couple in Australia. Luke Davies (Candy, Life) has written the screenplay. Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech, Iain Canning (Shame, Mr. Holmes, Macbeth) and Angie Fielder (Wish You Were Here) are producing the project. Lion will be released on November 25, 2016 by the Weinstein Company.
O’Halloran’s recent projects also include Drake Doremus’ sci-fi drama Equals starring Kristen Stewart & Nicholas Hoult. The movie, which he co-scored with Apparat premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and was picked up by A24 Films for a domestic release this summer. The composer will also return to score the third season of Amazon’s critically acclaimed series Transparent. Hauschka’s previous scoring credits include last year’s horror thriller The Boy.
