Carter Burwell has signed on to score the upcoming disaster drama The Finest Hours. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Million Dollar Arm, Fright Night) and stars Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Eric Bana, Kyle Gallner and Holliday Grainger. The movie is based on a true story revolving around a rescue attempt by the Coast Guard in 1952 after pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard. Oscar nominees Paul Tamsay & Eric Johnson (The Fighter) and Scott Silver (8 Mile) wrote the screenplay based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. Jim Whitaker (Cinderella Man, Rebirth) and Dorothy Aufiero (The Fighter, Session 9) are producing the project. The Finest Hours is set to be released on January 29, 2016 by Wat Disney Pictures.
Burwell’s other upcoming projects also include Todd Haynes’ Carol starring Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara, which just premiered to critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released on December 18 by the Weinstein Company. The composer has also scored Bill Condon’s Mr. Holmes starring Ian McKellen (to be released on July 17), Brian Helgeland’s Legend starring Tom Hardy (to be released on October 2), Jason Bateman’s The Family Fang starring Nicole Kidman, as well as the Charlie Kaufman-scripted animated film Anomalisa. Burwell also has the Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar! coming up.
