Ludwig Göransson and Questlove have been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Top Five. The film is written and directed by Chris Rock who also stars in the movie alongside Rosario Dawson, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Jay Pharoah, Anders Holm and Michael Che. The movie tells the story of a New York City comedian-turned-film star whose unexpected encounter with a journalist forces him to confront both the career that made him famous and the life he left behind. Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, Captain Phillips) is producing the project with Eli Bush. Top Five will have its world premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Göransson whose previous scoring credits include NBC’s Community and Fox’s New Girl, as well as the features Fruitvale Station and 30 Minutes Or Less also has Joe Carnahan’s Stretch and the Ryan Murphy-produced The Town That Dreaded Sundown coming up. Questlove is best known as the drummer and joint frontman for The Roots, which is currently the in-house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
