Carter Burwell is attached to score the upcoming drama Carol. The film is directed by Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven, I’m Not There) and is set to star Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. The movie based on the novella by Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley) is set in 1950s New York and follows a 20-something clerk working in a department store and dreaming of a better life who falls for an older, married woman. Phyllis Nagy (Mrs. Harris) has adapted Highsmith’s novel for the screen. Elizabeth Karlsen (Byzantium, Made in Dagenheim) and Stephen Woolley (Interview with the Vampire, The Crying Game) are producing the project for Number 9 Films and Christine Vacho (Far from Heaven, Boys Don’t Cry) is producing for Killer Films. Burwell has previously collaborated with Haynes on the HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce. Carol is set to shoot in early 2014 in London and New York. The Weinstein Company has picked up domestic distribution rights. No word yet on a release date.
As previously reported, Burwell is also set to score Lisa Cholodenko’s HBO mini-series Olive Kitteridge starring Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins.
