Only one new movie is opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action film Oblivion directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo. The film’s score is composed by Anthony Gonzalez of M83 and Joseph Trapanese (TRON: Uprising, The Raid: Redemption). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as an original end titles song by M83 featuring Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfor earlier this week. Opening in limited release is the horror film The Lords of Salem written and directed by Rob Zombie and starring Sheri Moon Zombie, Bruce Davidson, Jeffrey Daniel Phillips, Ken Foree, Patricia Quinn, Dee Wallace, Maria Conchita Alonso, Judy Geeson and Meg Foster. The film’s original score is composed by John 5 & Griffin Boyce. Geffen Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as songs from the film by artists including Manfred Mann, Leviathan The Fleeing Serpent, Rick James, Rush and The Velvet Underground. Also opening in select cities is the indie drama Filly Brown directed by Youssef Delara & Michael D. Olmos and starring Gina Rodriguez, Jenni Rivera, Lou Diamond Phillips, Edward James Olmos, Emilio River, Noel Gugliemi, Kerry Norton and Chrissie Fit. Reza Safinia has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has announced a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. For the full album details, check out our previous news article. Another limited release this weekend is the French thriller In the House (Dans la maison) written and directed by Francois Ozon and starring Fabrice Luchini, Ernst Umhauer, Kristin Scott Thomas, Emmanuelle Seigner and Denis Menochet. The film’s original music is composed by Philippe Rombi who has previously collaborated with Ozon several times on such films as Swimming Pool, Potiche and Angel. Cristal Publishing has released a soundtrack album in France when the movie opened overseas last fall. Check out our soundtrack announcement for more information. The movie premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released in the US by Cohen Media Group.
Also opening in limited release is the drama Home Run directed by David Boyd and starring Scott Elrod, Vivica A. Fox, Dorian Brown and Charles Henry Wyson. Scott Allan Matthews has composed the film’s music. While no soundtrack album has been announced, the original song I Surrender by Matthews featuring Jesse Graver has been released last fall.
