Bryce Dessner (of The National) (Train Dreams, Sing Sing, The Two Popes, We Live in Time, The Accountant 2, Cyrano, Bardo, She Came to Me, Manhunt, A Good Person) has provided the original score for the upcoming drama A Statement. The film is directed by Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, The Station Agent) and stars Paul Rudd, Evan Peters, Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, John Turturro, Mary Catherine Garrison, Tatiana Maslany, Nina Arianda and Zach Woods. The movie based on the book Losing Earth by Nathaniel Rich is set at a beachside resort in Florida in 1980, when twenty experts gather for a weekend conference on a global issue that is starting to gain traction: the effects of Co2 emissions on the climate. McCarthy also co-wrote the screenplay with Thomas Bidegan (A Prophet, Rust and Bone) and Noé Debré (Stillwater, Dheepan). He is also producing the project with Jim Whitaker (Pete’s Dragon, A Wrinkle in Time) for Slow Pony, alongside Jonathan King (On the Basis of Sex, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie) & David Levine (Nickel Boys, Remarkably Bright Creatures) for Anonymous Content. Jonathan Schwartz (The Now), Nick Shumaker (Mrs. American, Victorian Psycho) & Bard Dorros (Worth, The Midnight Sky) for Anonymous Content and Mary Aloe (Mary, Alpha Gang) for Aloe Entertainment. A Statement will premiere this coming weekend at the 2026 New York Film Festival and will be released in theaters in the coming months by Sony Pictures Classics.
Dessner’s other recent projects include the Netflix limited series Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, which just premiered earlier this month.
