Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Kpop Demon Hunters, Wonder, The Good Shepherd, May December, Emancipation, The Affair, Nonnas, Ray Donovan) has been tapped to score the upcoming Cuban-American drama 1972. The film is written and directed by Marissa Chibás and stars Yul Vazquez, Cheryl Umaña, José Zúñiga, Bryanna Marie Felipe, Sienna Oquendo, Krizia Bajos, Orlando Pinedala, Kelvin Han Yee, Aixa Clemente, Yareli Arizmendi, Adam Peltier, Paige McGhee, Damian Darnell Lewis, Gia Ochsenbein and Gary Guerrier. The movie revolves around a Cuban exile faces the onslaught of a defiant daughter, a rogue hamster, a charismatic and provocative novelist friend, and her worst fears of losing hope and never returning to her homeland at her New Year’s Eve party in 1972. Liz Cardenas (Never Goin’ Back, All Happy Families) and Rui M. Xu are producing the Nil Novi, Ten to the Six Pictures, and Three Friends/One Spirit production. 1972 just finished production in Los Angeles and is expected to premiere at a major film festival in 2027. Zarvos’ other recent feature projects include Antoine Fuqua’s documentary Troublemaker, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date. He also continues to score Netflix’s The Diplomat, which will return for a fourth season.
